“I have never seen anyone who took a huge risk for growth that was not rewarded 10,000 times.” John O’Donohue

To encounter someone, something or some place implies that it’s unexpected or a surprise. To encounter the moment means to be face to face with the unknown. In movement practice, we train ourselves to stay open, curious, centered and responsive at the front edge of any Encounter, counter balancing our innate primal reaction to fight, flee, freeze or please.
Rather than withdrawing, playing it safe or letting things that we are not ok with roll by, imagine a world where we all could be adept at being present and standing our ground clearly and authentically. A world were we able to express opinions, feelings, discontent, and appreciation skillfully, while remaining wholeheartedly open to outcome and change.
In this workshop, within a supportive and challenging environment, we will create a ‘safe emergency’ – a situation intense enough to get our attention and with enough support that we can risk moving beyond our habitual patterns. We can get real feedback and plenty of practice making new choices in relation to others.
Open Floor Encounter straddles the middle ground of the edgy, pioneer spirit of group ‘Encounter’ of the ’60s, the sophistication and finesse of more recent psychotherapeutic insights and the resources of embodied movement. Artfully graceful, unpredictable and infinitely creative this process calls forth both our maturity and innate wisdom.
This program is an introduction to the Encounter form. A taste. It is a prerequisite for the longer Encounter committed group intensives.
